Inspiring culture, rich history, stunning scenery and yummy pastries, France is a European powerhouse that attracts visitors from all around the world. Rightly so. With so much on offer it’s easy to understand why France is the world’s most visited country.
It’s hard to know where to begin, so I’ll start with the obvious. If you’re looking to immerse yourself in city life, Paris entertains with a never-ending list of attractions. For culture seekers the city’s array of incredible art museums and literary locations will surely delight, along with its charming bookshops and cosy cafes.
For more relaxed vibes, explore the French countryside with its sprawling vineyards, open vistas and exquisite architectural monuments. Head south to Arles, the birthplace of Van Gogh, or visit Toulouse, known poetically as the ‘Rose City’.
Now let’s talk about the World Heritage Sites – France has many of them – 54 and counting. The most iconic is probably Mont Saint-Michel – a medieval island-fortress rising into the sky like a Gothic fairytale. I’ve also fallen in love with the episcopal city of Albi, the birthplace of Toulouse-Lautrec and home of Sainte-Cecile Cathedral, the largest brick cathedral in the world.
The French Alps offer a playground for outdoor enthusiasts, where majestic peaks provide a backdrop for skiing in winter and hiking in summer. Chamonix-Mont-Blanc, nestled at the foot of Western Europe’s highest mountain, offers a thrilling blend of adventure and breathtaking scenery. I’ve yet to reach the summit but watch this space!
